ODSC Panthers U-14 Girls Finalists in Danville Sizzler Tournament

Three ODSC teams went to the inaugural Danville Sizzler tournament on the weekend of 29-30 Aug; the U-15G Crunch and the U-12G Wave won the championship in their divisions while the Panthers won 2nd place in the U-14G division.

Most of the teams participating were from western and south-central Virginia, and the Virginia Beach teams were warmly received.  The Panthers won their first game against the sponsoring club’s home team (the Danville Blast), then tied the second against a VAFC Arsenal team.  On Sunday the Panthers won their first game against a PASA team.  In the championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Panthers led 1-0 for most of the match, but in the second half the VAFC Arsenal U-14G team scored the tying goal.  Based on the tiebreaker rules for the tournament, the Arsenal won the championship; nevertheless the Panthers were undefeated in the tournament.

The five new players contributed strongly to the Panther’s high level of performance, adding a fast and furious offensive punch to the steady defensive strength of the team’s veterans.  The girls really rose to the occasion, implementing the tactics that Coach Keri Dennison and Coach Chuck Kenison have so carefully taught them over the last few weeks.
